MOST LAKE

The former brown coal open cast site Most Lake is situated between City of Most edge and active chemical plants. This area lies on original site of historical city of Most which was built in 13tht century and between 1967 – 1982 destroyed due to coal mining. From 1975 till 1995 an open cast mine was operated on this place. Most of the area is after reclamation (incl. artificial lake), ready for new development projects. Some heritage of mining industrial activities still remains here causing brownfield character of the site. Total area of Most Lake brownfield is 1 637ha. Surface of the Most Lake will be after the end of watering (supposed in 2011) 309ha.

Regarding to the coal mining activities in Most Lake area there could occure difficulties with house building (land stability), possible contamination of soil etc. Chemical plants close to the Most Lake site could cause potential ecological risks. Another problem could be with complicated land property conditions (there are 33 land owners in this area). As regards of the future Most Lake site development, there are needs of strategic land planning, investment opportunities evaluation and marketing plan to transform the area e.g. to recreation area with benefit not only for residents of the city, but also for the local tourism.

Objectives and activities of the planned pilot project are:
• sustainable development in the Most Lake brownfield area;
• integration of the area with rest of the city of Most;
• transformation of the brownfield to recreational and housing area;
• reduction of ecological risks;
• solve road connections between area and city of Most;
• economical evaluation of site development.
